Memphis - Hometown of the Blues

Learn about some of the great areas in Memphis before you rent an apartment there. That way, you?re sure to find the best apartment for your lifestyle and interests.

On the eastern side of the Mississippi River, downtown Memphis has many apartments near landmark bars, restaurants and historical buildings. For nightlife, take a stroll down to the neon lights of historic Beale Street and stop by a local blues bar or jazz club. For dancing, many young (and not so young) locals are infatuated with Paula and Raiford?s Disco ? the sequel to the original Raiford?s Disco, a downtown landmark.

In a downtown apartment, you?ll also be close to some top-notch Memphis museums. Learn about the great civil rights leader and the struggles endured by many at the Martin Luther King Museum. Visit the Rock and Soul Museum to explore the incredible musicians who started in Memphis. Take a tour of the Gibson Guitar Factory to see how they make their famous custom guitars. Not far from downtown is Sunset Studios, where legends like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis got their breaks.

Take a short walk from your downtown apartment to a basketball game at the Fed Ex Forum where both the University of Memphis Tigers and the Memphis Grizzlies play. Catch a Memphis Redbirds? baseball game in their classic ballpark modeled after Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. Before or after the game, experience the dry ribs at Charles Vergo?s Rendezvous or a burger at Huey?s; both are local favorites.

You can find affordable Memphis apartments on Mud Island, which has two marinas and the Mud Island River Park with a museum and an outdoor amphitheater. You?ll be close to many Memphis in May events, such as Music Fest, Barbeque Fest, and a Sunset Symphony riverside performance.

For quieter neighborhoods with less tourism, try an apartment in Midtown Memphis, where you?ll still be close to fantastic restaurants, theatres, art museums, historic homes and more. There are also great schools, a state-of-the art library, beautiful parks and many other attractions.Drive east down Poplar Avenue to Corky?s ? a popular barbeque joint where you?ll fall in love with the food and the southern charm of the staff. Travel further east to Shelby Farms for scenic bike trails along the Wolf River.

The ever-popular Graceland Mansion is located on the south side of Memphis on Elvis Presley Boulevard (of course). You can usually explore the mansion and grounds daily, but there are some exceptions, so check the hours before you go.

With its rich culture and southern hospitality, it?s no wonder you?re thinking of moving to Memphis. Find your apartment in the heart of the mid-south today on ApartmentGuide.com.
